In the red corner, possibly hailing from Akron Ohio I'm pleased to announce THE HUMBARD FAMILY SINGERS. Weighing in at a combined weight of just under 200 pounds these cherubic darlings deliver an overproduced impassioned version of the classic "This Little Light Of Mine" . Susan, Mikey, Suzanna, Missy, Rex the III, and Donna Sue were obviously well tutored and come from a long line of ministry. At the time of recording they already held titles outside the USA. They spread the good word in both Chile and Brazil. Their LP was released in 1979 on the Impact record label. The backing track sounds like it was cut from a Banana Splits or Laugh-In soundtrack. Prime time TV variety hour status for sure. I swear i saw them on Donny & Marie. You know that sound where Batman (from the tv show batman) punches some guy and it says THWACK! real big? well...listen close...The Humbards Throw down a few blows of their own to accent the chorus. Look out Satan! The pop sensibilities abound. Sadly...the Humbards stay in key throughout. Their harmonies are perfect. Rex III sounds like puberty is just a couple days off, but he somehow manages to hold it together. I picked this one up for a buck at Teen Challenge (see earlier post). The cover looks absolutely putrid. I shouldn't have even picked it up, but i'm a glutton for saccharine punishment so i flipped it over and looked at the song titles. A-HA!! a match for the ages......
